Still His Breath Filled Her Body — A5 or A3 Sampler Kit (Fabric/Calico)

£12.50 - £150.00

This piece is a tribute to Syrinx, a water nymph whose story - like too many women’s - ends not in rescue, but in erasure.

In Greek mythology, Syrinx is pursued by the god Pan, who seeks to possess her. In desperation, she transforms herself into a reed to escape him. But even this final act of autonomy is taken from her. Pan, unfazed, cuts down her transformed body and fashions it into his iconic panpipes; an instrument through which his voice is heard, made from her silenced one.

Still His Breath Filled Her Body reflects on this act of violence disguised as beauty, on a woman's identity quite literally being reshaped into a tool for a man’s expression. It’s about loss, theft, transformation—and what it means when your story is rewritten without your consent.

All are printed on a selection of vintage floral fabrics (often Laura Ashley, RHS, or similar botanical patterns), each piece becomes a blend of classical beauty and quiet rage.

Available Sizes:
Large (A3)
This would take an experienced/intermediate stitcher, 6–12 weeks, depending on your pace and materials used.
Small (A5)
Ideal for quicker projects—most take 1.5 to 3 weeks to complete.

Why This Piece Matters:
Pan’s panpipes are celebrated in myth. But the material used—Syrinx herself—is forgotten.
This piece restores her to memory. Not as an instrument. But as a woman.
As someone who ran. Who resisted. Whose voice deserves more than silence.
